That Terrible Day...

I didn't lose anyone on 9/11/01, but I get extremely emotional when I see documentaries, movies, etc. about the day. I don't always watch them, but sometimes I do. (The documentary made by the french filmmakers was really powerful for me.) I'm wondering how y'all are choosing to respond to the abundance of media attention on this approaching fifth anniversary. (For example, CNN is replaying their entire coverage of that day online in real time.)

And for those of you who may have lost loved ones, how do you respond to the fifth anniversary of that terrible day?

Comments:
Wow - I didn't know CNN was doing that. I think I will blog about it on Monday. I can remember so clearly what I was feeling that day. I don't know if I'm up for watching the footage again, though.

i don't know if i am either--but i didn't see most of it day, and would sort of like to--we continued classes normally....

I still find it very upsetting, too.

I was working at a Barnes & Noble Cafe that day in Charlotte, and people kept coming in with these crazy stories about the World Trade Centers. When I found out that the planes were American Airlines and that they had flown out of Boston I was terrified. My dad was supposed to flying out of Boston that day and he always flies with American.

I kept calling and couldn't get a hold of him. I finally got my mom and she said that Dad had had some issues with one of his teeth and had stayed home because he had to see a dentist and have some work done. In fact, the reason I couldn't get a hold of him was because he was at the dentist's office when I called. So, it turned out that he was not on a plane out of Boston that day. I was so relieved, but very shaken up. I asked my manager for a break and went in the bathroom and cried.

They decided to close early that day, so I went home and watched what was happening with Macon. It was stunning...I could not believe it was all actually happening.

I also remember feeling very sorry for my husband's sister who was in Spain that semester. It was her birthday that day, and because all the phone lines got tied up that day, she couldn't get a hold of any of her family to find out what was going on, but she knew that there were some major terrorist events taking place back home. She was very worried. I am glad that most of the day had already passed in Spain so that her whole birthday was not characterized by these attacks.
